The Referee Fitness Test
Keep up your fitness by participating in the training carried out by our very own George MacDonald.
George recently took over the Association Trainer role after teh retirement of Tommy Matthews. George is a current Category 4 Referee and
ensures training is fun and varied through the use of FIFA training
material and the use of the UEFA Referee Training Programme supplied
by Professor Dr. Werner Helsen of Belgium. Senior and Junior
Referees are required to complete the FIFA Fitness Test at least twice
per season. Here are some photos showing referees going through the fitness test. The FIFA Fitness Test, as shown below, has been recognised throughout the world for many years.
The FIFA Test comprises :-
Average running speed during repeated fast runs over a specific distance.
6 x 40metre sprints 6.2 to 6.8 seconds dependent on referee category, with 1 minute 30 seconds recovery between each.
Capacity to perform repeated high-intensity runs.
Intermittent running of a minimum 10 laps. One lap comprises 2 x 150m runs in a maximum time of 30 seconds for each 150m. This is followed by a 50m recovery run, the time for which will vary from 35 to 45 seconds, dependent on category of the referee.
